Education is Empowerment

Why We Do

Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. It equips individuals with knowledge, skills, confidence, and opportunities to lead dignified and productive lives. While India has made significant progress in improving school enrolment, access to quality education remains uneven, especially for children from marginalized and economically vulnerable communities.

Children from low-income families often face challenges such as learning gaps, lack of academic support at home, digital exclusion, migration-related disruptions, and early pressure to contribute to household income. These factors lead to poor learning outcomes and increase the risk of school dropout, particularly during critical transition stages.

The COVID-19 pandemic further deepened these inequities, resulting in learning loss and disengagement from schooling for millions of children. For first-generation learners, returning to school and catching up academically remains a significant challenge.

At DUA Foundation, we believe that education must be inclusive, continuous, and holistic. Beyond enrolment, children must be supported to stay in school, learn effectively, and develop the skills required to navigate life and future careers. Education, for us, is not just about academic achievement but about enabling children to realize their full potential.

What We Do

DUA Foundation works to strengthen the education journey of children and youth by addressing academic, digital, and socio-emotional needs. Our programs focus on improving learning outcomes, reducing dropout rates, and enabling smooth transitions across educational stages.

We work across:

Our education initiatives are aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and are designed to complement existing education systems through community-based and school-linked interventions.

Our Interventions

1. Foundational Learning & School Readiness

Strong foundational skills are essential for long-term academic success. We support early learners through age-appropriate, activity-based methods that strengthen literacy and numeracy while fostering curiosity and confidence.

2. Academic Support & School Retention

To prevent learning gaps and dropouts, we provide targeted academic support through remedial classes, bridge courses, and mentoring. These interventions help children keep pace with curriculum requirements and build self-belief.

3. Digital & Experiential Learning

Recognizing the growing importance of digital literacy, we integrate technology into learning. Digital classrooms, blended learning modules, and STEM-based activities make education engaging and relevant while preparing children for a technology-driven world.

4. Life Skills & Holistic Development

Education extends beyond textbooks. We support children and adolescents in developing communication skills, critical thinking, emotional resilience, and awareness about health, hygiene, and career options.

5. Scholarships & Higher Education Support

Financial constraints should not limit aspiration. We support deserving students through scholarships, mentoring, academic guidance, and exposure to higher education and career pathways.

6. Parent & Community Engagement

Families and communities play a crucial role in sustaining education. We engage parents and community leaders to promote the value of education, especially for girls, and create supportive learning environments.

Our Focus

DUA Foundation’s education programs primarily serve:

  • Children from low-income and marginalized communities
  • First-generation learners
  • Children of migrant and informal sector workers
  • Girls and adolescents at risk of dropping out
  • Youth aspiring for higher education and employability

We prioritize geographies with limited access to quality education and higher vulnerability to learning loss.

Key outcomes include:

  • Improved literacy and numeracy levels
  • Increased school attendance and retention
  • Reduced dropout rates
  • Enhanced learner confidence and aspiration
